Knowing God

Reflections from Psalms 31

By Tanja

Meaning that God rescues us when we are in trouble, or when the enemy wants to take advantage of us.

“In you, Lord, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness.” Psalms 31:1

God is a LISTENER.

When we pray to God, He hears us, and our prayers are valuable to Him.

He takes us seriously. If we cry over a situation in our lives, He hears, and He cries over our laments too.

God is a ROCK.

That does not mean that God is a lifeless idol, not at all, because God is a living God. God exists. It means that God is strong and sure, the strength that God has is enormous.

Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge,” Psalms 31:2

God is a FORTRESS.

The Hebrew word for ‘fortress’ is ‘mâtsûwd’- meaning – ‘castle,’ ‘strong place,’ and ‘defence.’

It’s kind of like saying God is your ‘castle.’ When you come to God, you can hide in Him. Being with God is the safest and most secure place to be. When there is a storm, hide in the refuge of the Lord.  It is worth putting all your trust in God.

“Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me.” Psalms 31:3

Sometimes our hearts are crying for freedom. We aren’t meant to live trapped and enslaved in bondage. God values us so much. We mean so much to Him that He wants us to live in freedom. So, don’t be weighed down. Bring worship to the King.

Yes. You are safe when you trust in the almighty God, He is your refuge.

“Keep me free from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge.” Psalms 31: 4

Thank you, God, that You are my deliver. I can call on You, and You hear the cries of our hearts. I know that You are a living God, You reign in glory. You are the place we can come to when we need a refuge. You are the God who freely gave Your love for us, and You want us to be free to worship You.
