Shepherd Poem

By Tanja

The Lord is my Shepherd.

How is He, my Shepherd?

When He goes searching for me at the end of the day:

Is it sometimes hard to find me?

Does He give up at this time?

Or does He run,

Get hot,

Tired and sweaty if He has a tough time looking for me?

Does He ever give up?

And if He has found me trapped,

Or caught in a dangerous place

And I am dying of pain,

Bleeding,

Afraid,

Lonely,

Given up hope,

Feeling completely lost;

Can He pick me up and mend me?

Most of all comfort me?

The Lord is my Shepherd:

I SHALL NOT BE IN WANT.

At the beginning of the day

I shall go running towards Him.

I will adore Him.

Love Him.

Rest in His arms.

Stay.

In His company.

I will feel at home when I’m with Him.

In His home, I do not fear.

Even if a bad force would try to come near our house.

I am very sure that it

Cannot stand against my Shepherd;

Who is the guard of our home.

Whoever it is will be scared off by the very presence of my Shepherd.

So it is sure…

That I will be able to live in total peace with my Shepherd.

I am allowed to live in this home all the days of my life.

It is my permanent home

And it is with my Shepherd that I will always belong.

NOTE:

I wrote this poem in 2007; the poem is a reflection on Psalm 23. I recently had someone find a framed copy of the poem, printed on green paper. The truth of Psalm 23 doesn’t fade; even today the Lord is my shepherd. Jesus is my shepherd. Jesus is your shepherd, may He guide and lead you in your life’s course.
